Exciting news... Accenture has invited us to participate in its Spring Semester 2010 "University Mentoring Program"! This is a pilot program and GWU is one of a select group of schools invited to participate. NOTE: Application deadline is Friday, February 12.
Program Details
* Aligns motivated students who are interested in consulting with some of the best industry professionals at Accenture
* Capitalizes on one of Accenture’s governing Core Values - Stewardship
* Program mentors inspire creativity and independence and help mentees set goals and develop specific skill sets
* Members of the program will formally meet twice a semester to engage in co-curricular activities that help facilitate initial interactions between mentors and mentees
* Students will engage in lasting professional relationships that will help them expand their professional network

The Consulting Club welcomed Mr. Marc Cosentino for an interactive workshop on Case Interviews. We learned the dos and don'ts of case interviewing with Mr. Cosentino. The workshop was divided into a first "drilling" part and then a second interactive session guiding students through a market sizing question, a first round and a second round case interview.
Marc has twenty years of experience with case questions. He has written well over a hundred cases, while coaching, preparing and training more than eight thousand Harvard students and alumni. He has written three books involving cases and consulting. Cosentino has given workshops to students at a number of colleges and MBA programs and has held training sessions for career services professionals. He has consulted with and designed cases for private sector firms, government agencies and nonprofits.
Cosentino is the president of CaseQuestions.com and the former Associate Director of Career Services at Harvard for 18 years. Marc is a graduate of Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and the University of Denver.
Members of the Club were selected to participate at this event hosted by Deloitte. We traveled to their faciliy and experienced the daily activities of a consultant. Participants attended presentations on Deloitte's business and had the chance to be involved on an in-house presentation contest judged by representatives of the firm.
GW Professors in discussed current trends in the consulting industry and how best to position yourself for your career. Professors represented different aspects of the consulting industry including Management Consulting, Marketing Consulting and Strategic Management and Public Policy.
5 consultants from Deloitte critiqued the GW Consulting Club resumes and gave feedback to help craft resumes more suitable for consulting positions.
The GW Consulting Club and the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management joined efforts in organizing this event. A panel of consultants discussed the specifics of the consulting career as well as the type of skills and experiences that students interested in that profession should be building. Dr. Donald Hawkins introduced the upcoming Summer 2008 International Consulting Practicum in Guatemala.
